Roger Howarth has portrayed his share of memorable soap opera characters. Now he’s bringing a mysterious new character to The Young and the Restless.
What to Know About Roger Howarth
A native New Yorker, Howarth started performing as a child when he was cast in the play The Grand Duke at the age of seven. He was actively involved in his high school drama department and appeared in several of their productions. After a couple of segues, Howarth decided to join the acting program at Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center in Connecticut, finally accepting his calling, and he’s never looked back.

1. Believe it or not, Howarth initially resisted choosing acting as a profession. He actually studied political science at George Washington University. But after one semester of hitting the books, he dropped out of college.
2. He was discovered during a nationwide talent search and soon cast on the ABC soap Loving, where he played Kent Winslow. The role rapped quickly, and Howard was hired by One Life to Live to play Todd, a rapist. It was supposed to be a one-day gig, but it ended up lasting several years, and it earned him the Daytime Emmy award for Outstanding Younger Leading Actor in a Drama Series in 1994.
3. Soccer has been big part of Howarth’s life. He began playing as a boy and continued through the age of 19. He was a member of the Puma Shoes U.S. National Soccer Team. Although it was an amateur team, it afforded him the opportunity to play in Brazil and Europe.
4. Not surprisingly, soccer is Howard’s favorite sport. When it comes to teams, he roots for Arsenal, a club based in Islington, North London, England that competes in the Premier League.
5. Howard left One Life to Live in 1998 to try his luck in Hollywood and pursue projects on Broadway. He appeared on stage in several productions beginning with The White Rose. He was also cast in The Lion in Winter opposite Laurence Fishburne and Stockard Channing.
6. The Native New Yorker still lives in The Big Apple. He commuted from New York City to Los Angeles, when he was on GH, and will likely do the same now that he’s joined Y&R.
7. Howard recurred on the sixth season of Dawson’s Creek. He played Greg Heston, Joey’s (Katie Holmes) college professor.
