John Legend fans got more than they bargained for at his concert at Barclays Center in Brooklyn last.
The Voice alum had a surprise guest that left concert-goers in their feels. Legend was joined by the iconic Lauryn Hill, who gave a powerful performance that has since gone viral.
Billboard Hip-Hop/R&B shared a clip from the concert with Legend on the piano as Hill took to the mic, proving she’s still got it decades after she made her mark on R&B and soul music.

Fans ran to the comments to share their thoughts on seeing these two “legends” on stage together. Several left fire emojis, as others let their words describe their feelings.
One fan stated, “So Dope ❤️🙌🔥🔥🔥🔥”, while a different fan stated, “Amazing night” and “It was everything!! Truly.” “Still got that fire!”
Hill also belted out her song “Doo Wop (That Thing)” with a little help from Legend. The footage of that has taken over TikTok. One fan shared a close-up of Hill on stage during that performance, writing, “MS LAURYN HILL surprises everyone at john legends show in BROOKLYN.
Fans couldn’t stop gushing over the iconic singer. “THIS is the energy we need from Ms. Lauryn Hill!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾,” insisted a fan.

Hill celebrated the moment on social media, providing backstory into her relationship with Legend, writing, “Twenty-seven years ago I was introduced to a young man named John, or as Tara Michel, my former schoolmate and then background vocalist referred to him, ‘Johnny’. We were looking for someone to add ‘sauce’ to a then stripped down version of Everything Is Everything. He played piano with soul, beauty, reverence and intention for the soul legacy that preceded us. John laid down the near ‘perfectly imperfect’ piano takes we needed, the rest is history. Not long after, John ‘Johnny’ Legend would become multi-platinum, multi-award winning recording artist, soulfully penning and crooning his own world-stirring classics.”
