Olivia Rodrigo Reunites With Robert Smith for ‘What’s Wrong With Me’

Another week another ten new tracks added to our Discovery Playlist on Spotify and Apple Music, including two from premieres earlier in the week. Sydney singer-songwriter Georgia Mulligan is our Track of the Week with “Split” – the third single released from her forthcoming album Unheaven.

‘Part confessional and part ridiculous poem’, “Split” is to put it simply – stunning! It’s clever, heartfelt, and completely compelling. It’s a bit of a masterclass in introspective and confessional songwriting. Musically, it’s quietly captivating, there’s a nice balance of bass, percussion and that gorgeous baritone guitar sound. The focus, then becomes Mulligan’s striking and beautiful vocal. It just grips you from the first moment. There’s no shortage of excellent alternative and indie female singer-songwriters in Australia at the moment, and Mulligan is right up there with the best of them.

Stella Donnelly is back with her first new music since her 2022 album Flood, and we are so glad for it. “Baths” is a reminder of all we love about her music. There’s a gentleness and intimacy to it which is just ever so moving. The first couple of verses are sung a cappella, with an Irish folk song feeling, as Stella lifts the veil on her time away from the musical spotlight, and what might be coming next. There’s a lovely video as well, with her swimming off Seaholme Jetty in Altona, Victoria. I suspect she suffered for her art there – looks cold!. There is another track also released- “’Standing Ovation” – hunt it down.

“Swim Practice” is the latest single from Canadian alt country singer-songwriter Mariel Buckley. The single is Buckley’s second release of 2025 and accompanies the announcement of her new album Strange Trip Ahead which is set for release October 17th via Birthday Cake Records. “Swim Practice”, which was co-written with Winnipeg artist Cassidy Mann, finds Buckley bucking genre conventions leaning more into emotive indie-rock territory. Exploring themes of adolescent shame, secrecy, and queer longing “Swim Practice” is moody, emotive and atmospheric with chorus-soaked guitars, rippling percussion, plenty of reverb, and that almost confessional lyricism that just pulls you in.

Today long time AU favourite Riley Pearce announced The Weight of Our Dreaming – the WA singer-songwriter’s forthcoming third album. Accompanying the announcement is the emotional new single “You Won’t Be There”. The beautiful track explores the tension between chasing a dream and being there for the people who matter most; and is inspired in part by Pearce balancing life as a working musician and all that entails, with that of a father of two young girls and as a husband. As Pearce reflects: ’I keep coming back to how being away from home feels now and all the moments missed. Time differences make geographical distances feel larger. With two young girls back home, all I want is to end my day sharing stories.’

“Prisoner” from Eora/Sydney-based rockers Krystal Rivvers features the raw and expressive vocals from frontman Earl Weir and ethereal chorus performance from Polly Cooper (Hatchling). It’s moody, sultry and oozes charisma. The track was produced by Jack Moffitt (The Preatures) . The band writes: “‘Prisoner’ is the result of a late night out in the city and returning home to rough out some ideas on the acoustic guitar and voice memo,” Weir explains. “It’s about wanting what you don’t need – and needing what you can’t quite hold onto. The hook had a lot of back and forth, and we thought Polly would be perfect to bring the brightness it needed; her lead vocal really lights it up.

Melbourne’s rock’n’roll power poppers The Prize have released the rip-roaring “From The Night”. With three guitars at the fore, it’s reminiscent of everything we love about loud guitar rock in pubs, where the sweat drips from the ceiling and your feet sticks to the carpet. It’s a big week for the band – they’ve announced that their debut album, In The Red will be released on the 19th of September. You can catch the band on Saturday August 23 at Bell City Takeaway in Preston with guests Handgrenade Hearts.

Also added to the playlist this week is “Calling Me Back” the new single from Gold Coast-based teenager (he’s 16!) and rock artist MYLES – who was getting attention at the Bluesfest Busking Stage earlier in the year. The track is really pleasing blend of blues, grunge and rock textures, with some brilliant guitar work throughout. It’s one of those tracks that designed to be played loud.

We’ve also added “Tiny Losses” a recent release from Brooklyn band vagaries. Hazy, kinda lo-fi, and with a bit of a psych edge to proceedings, the track is from their new album It’s My Cake, which is out now.

Finally we ‘ve added “Break” from Call the Mourning, which we premiered the new video, and “Down and Dirty”, a focus track from the new album from The Holly Rollercoasters which we also premiered this week.
