Sam Nivola didn’t mince words when discussing veteran actors taking on youthful characters.
The White Lotus actor shared his candid views about Hollywood during a chat with Variety, highlighting how established performers are blocking opportunities for emerging talent in the industry.
Sam, who portrayed Lochlan Ratliff in White Lotus, revealed to the outlet, “The old movie stars are getting plastic surgery, and they’re looking younger and they’re staying young. You have these really old people playing young roles. And it’s not giving any space for the young’uns to move in and make a name for themselves.”
Sam added, “With all due respect to those people, one day they won’t be here anymore, literally, and they will have to create new stars.”
The White Lotus performer also gave props to Timothée Chalamet for representing a new generation of talent.
He continued, “He gives one of the greatest comedic performances of all time in ‘Tropic Thunder,’ and he’s not at all a comedian. ‘Jerry Maguire,’ ‘Risky Business,’ ‘Magnolia’ – he’s an incredible dramatic actor. And then he has this whole latter half of his career of being an action star.”
Sam first stepped into the acting world in 2013 with a role in the “Six” episode of the TV series Doll and Em, a show co-created and starred in by his mother, Emily Mortimer. His father is the renowned actor Alessandro Nivola.
In 2022, Sam took on a role in the comedic drama White Noise and later shared the screen with Nicole Kidman in The Perfect Couple (2024). Earlier this year, Sam portrayed Lochlan Ratliff in the third season of HBO Max’s The White Lotus, with Patrick Schwarzenegger playing his on-screen older brother.
While many viewers enjoyed the new season, some were left unsettled after Sam and Patrick participated in a now-notorious incest scene.
