Sarah Jessica Parker has finally admitted what many fans suspected: Carrie Bradshaw’s closet isn’t just collecting dust. Every once in a while, Parker has dipped back into her character’s iconic fashion archive — but only under very specific circumstances.
In a new interview with People, Parker revealed she once pulled a look straight from the archive to attend a birthday party in England. “I just did it,” she said with a laugh. “It’s one of the few occasions I’ve ever pulled from the archive for personal use… It’s not every day.”

That “not every day” qualifier is important. Parker, 60, explained she’s far from casual about raiding Bradshaw’s wardrobe, even when tempted. “What would the circumstances and the environment be that I would be wearing this, and would it be okay and safe, or would it be destroyed?” she said. “I’m very judicious about that.”
It’s a rare glimpse into how seriously Parker treats the character she’s played for nearly three decades. From Sex and the City’s debut in 1998 through the finale of And Just Like That earlier this month, Carrie’s clothes have been as central to the story as the breakups and the brunches. And unlike most TV wardrobes, Parker didn’t let them disappear. In a 2021 Vogue interview, she revealed: “I had all of the original stuff in my own storage. Furniture, clothes, everything, packed according to season and episode and scene. I kept every single solitary thing.”
That kind of devotion has allowed Carrie’s tutu, Manolos, and nameplate necklace to live on long after the show itself. It also blurs the line between actress and character. As Parker admitted in June, she does share some of Carrie’s affection for fashion, even if hers is “less fevered” than the columnist’s.
Now, with And Just Like That closing its run, Parker’s disclosure feels especially poignant. Borrowing from the archive isn’t just about convenience — it’s about honoring a character who shaped her life and career. As she wrote in her Instagram farewell to Carrie earlier this month: “Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all.”
