Katy Perry’s years-long courtroom fight over a $15 million Santa Barbara mansion is heading into a new phase, and the family of bedridden veteran Carl Westcott says they are willing to forgive the pop star — but only under one condition.
As the second phase of the legal battle begins Thursday, August 21, Perry is seeking damages she says she’s owed after purchasing the home from the 85-year-old entrepreneur, who suffers from Huntington’s disease.
Speaking to the NPPost, Westcott’s son, Chart, said forgiveness could come if the singer finally apologized for dragging his family through the trial. “An apology would be nice. That would tie a ribbon around the whole thing,” he said.
“[I’m] not expecting it. I don’t think it’s in her nature to take responsibility for anything, really at all, but certainly not for her bad acts. She doesn’t take responsibility, so that’s not going to happen. But that would be nice.”
Chart stressed he would accept a sincere apology, adding, “Absolutely. I think you have to forgive people if they’re sincere in their apologies. You have to give them that grace.”
Still, he argued Perry had shown “not one ounce of grace or dignity” to his father.
Perry, 40, was awarded ownership of the mansion in December 2023, but Westcott tried to undo the sale claiming he was mentally incapacitated. Perry sued to have the sale go through and won the case after years of litigation, with a judge ruling that Westcott “presented no persuasive evidence that he lacked capacity to enter into a real estate contract between June 10, 2020, and June 18, 2020.”
The judge added there was proof he was “coherent, engaged, lucid, and rational” when signing. The deed was transferred to Perry’s LLC, DDoveB, in May 2024, but the legal wrangling didn’t end there.

The “Dark Horse” singer sued Westcott for $3.25 million, claiming she lost rental income during the drawn-out case, and her attorneys later demanded an additional $2.2 million in alleged repairs.
They argued experts found “significant portions needed to be repaired, including nearly a million dollars in pervasive flood damage… and substantial repairs that are needed due to a large tree falling on and cracking the foundation.”
Chart, who revealed his family will be in court throughout the five-day trial alongside his sister-in-law, Real Housewives of Dallas alum Kameron Westcott, insisted they still want closure.
“There has to be room for grace and how we conduct our affairs, which is not what she showed my father, right? … So it would be completely forgiven,” he said. “Let me know that there’s an actual human being in there” with “empathy and compassion left.”
