Multi-platinum rapper Playboi Carti will headline his first local arena show when he plays St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center on Oct. 23.
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday through Ticketmaster.
Born Jordan Terrell Carter in Atlanta, Carti began posting his music online in 2011 and, four years later, began attracting attention for his singles “Broke Boi” and “Fetti.” At that time, he was also collaborating with artists in Atlanta’s underground rap scene, which led to a record deal with Interscope.
His self-titled mixtape entered the charts at No. 12 in 2017 and spawned the multi-platinum hits “Wokeuplikethis” and “Magnolia.” The following year, his debut studio album “Die Lit” debuted at No. 3.
In the years since, Carti has continued to release his own music and collaborate with the likes of Trippie Redd, Future, Metro Boomin, Travis Scott, Kanye West, Ty Dolla Sign and Camila Cabello. He’s also recorded several songs with the Weeknd and opened for the Canadian star at U.S. Bank Stadium in June.
Carti first announced his upcoming tour in 2023, which included an October stop at Target Center. But production delays led to several postponements and cancellations. The tour will now kick off Oct. 3 in Salt Lake City and hit 28 cities.
Earlier this year, Carti’s album “Music” became his second No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and received 139 million first-day streams, the highest debut of the year so far.
Starting Sept. 3, Xcel Energy Center will be named Grand Casino Arena. Minnesota Sports & Entertainment and Grand Casino announced a 14-year naming rights partnership on June 17.
