Here comes the bride?
In “Last Kiss,” the newest episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3, Belly is still reeling from Conrad’s confession on the beach during the night of her bachelorette party. Does she run off into the sunset with Conrad, abandoning the commitment she had made to Jeremiah? How will she explain Conrad’s emotional outburst to Jeremiah the night before their wedding? Can she really marry Jeremiah if part of her heart still belongs to his brother? While she grapples with these questions, the countdown to her impending “I do”’s is nigh. And, as it turns out, she isn’t the only one holding onto pent-up secrets.
Ahead, we break down the five biggest bombshells from this week’s explosive episode.
1 | Belly and Jeremiah call off the wedding.
After a season spent fighting for their right to tie the knot, Belly and Jeremiah ended up calling off their wedding before either of them ever even made it down the aisle. The bitter breakup came after Belly revealed Conrad’s confession to Jeremiah the night before. The reveal sent Jeremiah spiraling, leading the groom to disappear for hours without a trace up until the final few minutes before the ceremony was set to begin. Despite his brother’s betrayal, Jeremiah was still determined to marry Belly—so long as she loved him and him alone. However, Belly admitted that a small part of her still loves Conrad. Worse yet, that part of her may never completely go away. At that, Jeremiah and Belly tearfully parted ways.
2 | Jeremiah knew about Christmas.
In the midst of their breakup, Jeremiah revealed that he knew the truth about Belly’s “solo” Christmas plans all along. After his ski trip with his dad, the two went to visit Susannah’s grave in Cousins, where a neighbor mentioned that she had seen Conrad there earlier that day. The neighbor’s innocuous comment put the pieces of the puzzle together for Jeremiah: Belly wasn’t spending Christmas by herself at the Cousins beach house, as she had told Jeremiah, but was spending it with Conrad. Jeremiah’s knowledge of Belly and Conrad’s secret explains why he was moody and sparked a near-relationship-ending fight with Belly just before his spring break trip to Cabo. It also means that he knew the truth of Belly’s feelings towards Conrad for much longer than he has let on.
3 | Conrad is done pretending.
After getting brutally rejected by Belly on the beach, Conrad decides to do something that we’ve never seen him do before: embrace his own feelings wholeheartedly. In the morning, he once again attempts to revoke his confession to Belly, chalking up his lovelorn speech to being “drunk,” and Belly quickly calls him on his bullshit. In response, Conrad says he loves Belly and has loved her for years. Most notably, he tells her, “I’m not pretending for you anymore.” With the big L word finally out, Conrad even repeats the confession to multiple people, including Taylor, Steven, Laurel, and Jeremiah. Still, this newfound approach to his feelings just might come at the expense of his relationships to his brother and Belly.
4 | Jeremiah accepted his dad’s job offer.
During their rehearsal dinner, Adam broke the news that Jeremiah had accepted a full-time position at his firm. The news came as a surprise to Belly, but Jeremiah assured her that the job will help them fund their newlywed life without the financial support of either of their parents. Now that Belly and Jeremiah won’t be getting married, it’s uncertain whether Jeremiah still plans on working for his father or if he will want to build his future on his own terms.
5 | Belly is going to Paris.
Belly will be a Parisian after all! Post wedding cancellation, Belly packed up her things from the Cousins beach house, hopped in a taxi, and headed straight to the airport, where, presumably, she was supposed to fly back home to Philadelphia. Instead, Belly seemed to find inspiration from the flight board, where she noticed a departing flight en route to Paris. She may not yet be the bride she dreamed she would be, but she can still be a foreign exchange student living her Emily in Paris dreams. Besides, what better way is there to get over a brother (or two) than by flying to France? (Of course, Conrad’s unexpected appearance at the airport just might change a thing or two…)
