During an interview with “NBC Nightly News” anchor Tom Llamas, the superstar, whose given name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, shared how his mom teared up while listening to “La Mudanza.”

When asked why the song made his mom, Lysaurie Ocasio, cry, the artist explained the personal connection.

“Because I’m just telling the story about how my parents meet each other, and how I came to this world,” Bad Bunny shared. “So it’s a very special story and it’s a very emotional song.”

“La Mudanza” is featured on Bad Bunny’s sixth studio album, “Debí Tirar Más Fotos,” which translates to “I should’ve taken more photos,” and was released in January.

The deeply personal, genre-blending LP is a love letter to Puerto Rico and family, and quickly became a chart-topper.

“I always wanted to make a salsa album,” he said, adding that he always thought it would be a project he did when he was older “when I turn 40 or something like that.” “And when I started to work on this album it was organically, everything. Like, “DTMF” song, the way that we created that song, it was- all just happening at the moment, feelings, people that (were) in the studio. You know, ‘Come here, let’s sing together.’”

Adding to his spotlight on his beloved culture and heritage, Bad Bunny kicked off a 30-show residency in his native Puerto Rico.

“It’s the best experience that I ever had in my life, in my career,” he said. “It’s more than a show. It’s more than a concert. It’s the culture right there, people all love each other, singing together. It’s something magical.”

You can see more of Bad Bunny during his full interview sit-down with Willie Geist on this weekend’s “Sunday TODAY.”
