- “I’m just really excited to see how this grows,” founder skxllflower told RA.
- A new bass music forum has been launched.
Drawing inspiration from the legendary Dubstep Forum, as well as chiptune-focused discussion boards like 8bc and chipmusic.org, WHITELBL hopes to become a “dedicated place for the community to exist,” according to founder skxllflower. The New York-based artist believes that the contemporary club scene is lacking a platform of this nature, where likeminded music lovers can chat, ask technical questions and share events.
“I’m tired of missing out on releases, tired of seeing friends post wonderful tune ideas to Twitter just to get viewership penalised for posting at the wrong hour or not including the right keywords,” he told Resident Advisor. “I really feel like we need a place to go without distractions. When I’m online with a purpose, I don’t need to see politicians and influencers in the same place I’m trying to talk about dubstep, and I knew I couldn’t be the only one that felt that way.”
Since opening to the public earlier this month, WHITELBL has hit the ground running. The forum already boasts more than 350 active members, 115 threads and 1,000-plus posts, covering everything from the best soulful drum & bass tracks and “hot music takes” to Coki‘s new EP on Tempa. But for now, skxllflower is keeping his feet on the ground.
“Even I don’t know what to expect from WHITELBL,” he said. “I hope it continues to stay active and growing, I hope that it lives up to the aspirations I have for it, to become that centralised hang-out space for producers, listeners and DJs, but at the end of the day, that’s up to the community. All I can do is try to provide the tools necessary for it to grow that way, and it’s my job to make it as frictionless as possible for the community to take it wherever it’s headed.”
