Firefighters on Friday responded to a fatal plane crash near the Centennial Airport just outside of Denver, officials said.
South Metro Fire Rescue said crews responded shortly before 6:30 a.m. to a business park at 8636 S. Peoria Street, near the Centennial Airport in Englewood, for a report of an aircraft emergency. They arrived to find a single-engine Beech BE35 in flames, with fire “threatening a structure and a large generator.” The fire was extinguished before it could damage nearby facilities.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene, and confirmed that two people died in the crash.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are investigating the cause of the crash.
The NTSB is asking witnesses and anyone with surveillance video of the crash to contact investigators at [email protected].
