Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s mother, Pamela Warner, is speaking out following her son’s tragic passing.
On Tuesday, September 16, Pamela appeared on Good Morning America for an interview with Robin Roberts, who brought up how the grieving mother screamed so loud when she learned The Cosby Show alum died that her neighbors in the cul-de-sac ran over.
“It was from the bottom of my soul,” Pamela recalled. “And what came up and what came out was huge. It was an indescribable pain that resonated throughout my body.”
Pamela also revealed how the late actor’s 8-year-old daughter is handling the loss.

“Children process differently,” Pamela remarked. “She watched them try to resuscitate him, so she saw that, and I know that’s awfully, awfully traumatic.”
“She loved her father dearly,” Pamela added. “She adored papa — he was papa.”
As Globe previously reported, Malcolm-Jamal accidentally drowned while in Limon, Costa Rica, at 54 years old. Pamela explained he was there with his wife and daughter for an “immersion trip” for the little girl, who, despite some initial reports, Pamela claimed was “not in the water” when he perished.
Rather, Malcolm-Jamal “was with another gentleman” who “was a more experienced swimmer,” and “was able to rescue himself.”
“The spiritual part of it was — that was his time, and that was the manner in which he was to transition,” she told Roberts, 64. “This is what I believe and what I feel.”
