John Leguizamo began voicing Sid the Sloth in the first Ice Age film in 2002
As he prepares for the premiere of Ice Age: Boiling Point in February 2027, Leguizamo shared his gratitude for the role and talked about how he’s used his paychecks from it

John Leguizamo opened up about his experience as part of the cast of Ice Age, including how he’s used his paychecks.
The 66-year-old actor recently caught up with Entertainment Tonight to discuss the sixth film, Ice Age: Boiling Point, which debuts in February 2027. During the conversation, he reflected on getting paid for being part of the successful and enduring franchise.
“It paid my bills! It got me a second and a triple home. It paid for my kids’ college,” the actor said with a laugh.
Additionally, Leguizamo said the role has always “allowed me to be really as funny as I want to be.”
“Movies are more dramatic usually, but in that, I got to be hilarious. I got to be so silly and create this incredible character and creature,” he shared.
The outlet showed Leguizamo an interview from 2002 in which he talked about voicing his character, Sid the Sloth.
“I said, ‘Give me some Discovery Channel footage on sloths,’ and of course, you’re watching, and it’s like there’s a sloth on fire and he’s running,” he said at the time. “And just when I was about to turn it off two hours later it still hadn’t moved. The narrator said, ‘They store food in their mouths.’ That’s how I started to come up with this sort of lateral lisp, from all the food. And that’s how we started to come up with the character,” he explained in the clip.
Reacting to the clip, Leguizamo realized he “can’t really let go of Sid the Sloth” and said that he could hear himself slipping into the character’s signature lisp.

Ice Age: Boiling Point follows the first movie, Ice Age: The Meltdown (2006), Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009), Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012) and Ice Age: Collision Course (2016).
Sharing a hint about what fans can look forward to with the latest installment, he teased, “Now we got number six coming up. They’re reuniting the trio, bringing Queen Latifah abroad and I think J. Lo’s in it as well. I mean, everybody’s coming back for this one.”
In June 2026, the first teaser for Ice Age: Boiling Point was released. The film is described as “a dinosaur-and-lava-filled madcap adventure that takes Manny, Sid, Diego, Ellie, Scrat and the rest of the herd to visit never-before-seen corners of the treacherous Lost World,” per Deadline.
The Ice Age films and shorts are currently streaming on Disney+.
