The screening is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Stefanie H. Weill Center for the Performing Arts, 826 N. Eighth St., in downtown Sheboygan.

“Film and television lovers in Sheboygan County are already thinking about and enjoying Tim Robbins’ work, so it made sense for us to celebrate him as well,” said Beah Travis, chair of the SFF Committee. “This film has aged very well, and many of the issues it addresses are even more relevant today.”

Adapted from Sister Helen Prejean’s 1993 memoir, the film stars Susan Sarandon as Sister Helen and Sean Penn as a death-row inmate seeking her help with his appeal.

Critic Roger Ebert praised the film in 1996, calling it “an exercise of philosophy” and noting that it “spoils us for other films” by challenging viewers to think beyond what is comfortable.

“Topsy Turvy” blends Greek tragedy with vaudeville, set in a world disrupted by a mysterious plague. The story follows a fragmented Greek Chorus through divine intervention, existential reckoning and absurdist spectacle.

The musical features appearances by Dionysus, Aphrodite, Bacchus, magicians, hypnotists and a mischievous monkey. With original music, live performance and biting humor, the play explores the human need for connection in chaotic times.

Angela Ramey, executive director of Kohler Foundation, Inc., explained, “This special experience continues our tradition of bringing the world’s greatest artists, performers and thought leaders to Sheboygan County.”

Tim Robbins to join Tonya Mosley for interview

Robbins’ visit will conclude with “An Evening with Tim Robbins and Tonya Mosley,” an in-depth interview hosted by the NPR “Fresh Air” co-host. That will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 11.
