The Luzerne County Arts & Entertainment Hall of Fame induction ceremony will feature performances Saturday at the F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts in Wilkes-Barre. It is the third annual group to be honored by the hall, which will soon start fundraising for a physical location.
Motionless in White
The honorees include Motionless in White, the metal rock band. Former member Josh Balz, owner of the Ritz Theater in Scranton, will be among the musicians attending. They are excited, he said.
“We worked hard,” Balz said. “We’re very proud of the area that we came from. So it’s great.”
Getting the news made the 36-year-old feel “very awesome and very old.”
Andrea Bogusko
The class includes Andrea Bogusko, a musician and teacher who lives in Fairview Twp. She has owned Andrea Bogusko Music Company in Wilkes-Barre Twp. for 50 years. She’ll be playing piano at the event.
She got the call April 1 and wondered if it was an April Fools’ Day prank pulled by a friend. “I was very honored and humbled,” she said.
Other entertainment category honorees
The Great Rock Scare: a regional band.
The Leer Brothers Band: a regional band.
Matthew Rogers: a Grammy-winning country music songwriter and performer.
Joe and John Stanky: polka musicians, who are brothers.
Alan K. Stout: music journalist, radio host and executive director of the Luzerne County Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Florence Foster Jenkins: the so-called “world’s worst opera singer,” whose life was made into a movie. She died in the 1940s.
In addition to Bogusko, Rogers, the Stanky brothers and their bands, the Leer Brothers and the Great Rock Scare are expected to perform.
The arts category class
Bob Heim: a well-known artist who lives in Wilkes-Barre, notable for his cartoons.
Lillian Cahn: the late co-founder of the Coach leather goods brand.
Niccolo Cortiglia: the late painter and art teacher.
Lyman H. Howe: a pioneering early filmmaker.
Marion Lorne: the late Emmy-winning actress who played Aunt Clara in “Bewitched.”
Rose O’Neill: an artist who created the Kewpie characters in the early 1900s.
Lawrence Russo: the late sculptor of the Christ the King statue, installed on the roof of the King’s College administration building in Wilkes-Barre in the 1950s.
Distinguished Achievement Award
For the first time, the hall is presenting a Distinguished Achievement Award. It goes to Paul Pringle, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, best known for work with the Los Angeles Times.
The hall is organized by a committee of civic leaders, with the steering committee chaired by journalist Bill O’Boyle.

Tickets for a VIP mixer and the ceremony are $65. Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. ceremony only are $30. All tickets are available at the F.M. Kirby Center box office, the Kirby Center’s website, kirbycenter.org or through Ticketmaster.com.
