“Yellowjackets” has been an engrossing, ’90s-loving drama for three seasons.
A dedicated fandom grew up around the New Jersey-set show, which first caught fire in 2021.
But it’s time for the soccer teammates from Wiskayok High to end the game.
Series creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, a married couple originally from Jersey (Belmar and Middletown), announced on Instagram Friday that the Showtime series will be ending with its fourth season.
“After three incredible seasons, and great consideration, we’re excited to announce that we will be bringing the story of Yellowjackets to its twisted conclusion in this fourth and final season,” they said in a post from the show’s account. “We’ve always known there would come a point when the story would tell us it wants to end, and it’s our belief that our job — our responsibility — is to listen.”

The fourth season of “Yellowjackets” is currently in the works.
The show, which regularly takes on death, trauma, survival and cannibalism, follows the Yellowjackets in both the ’90s and the 2020s.
One thread tracks their teen selves, starting in the fictional Wiskayok, New Jersey, after surviving a plane crash in the wilderness. Another storyline plays out between their adult selves 25-plus years later.
Two actors from New Jersey, Montclair’s Christina Ricci (Misty) and Monmouth County’s Tawny Cypress (Taissa), play adult Yellowjackets who survived the wilderness and the dark events that happened there, starring alongside Melanie Lynskey (Shauna), their old teammate. Juliette Lewis (Natalie) was part of the cast in the beginning of the show, and Simone Kessell (Lottie) and Lauren Ambrose (Van) joined later.
The teen cast includes Samantha Hanratty (Misty), Sophie Nélisse (Shauna), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Taissa), Courtney Eaton (Lottie), Liv Hewson (Van) and Sophie Thatcher (Natalie).

The series was nominated for the Emmy for best drama series; Ricci received a nomination for best supporting actress in a drama; Lynskey was nominated twice for lead actress in a drama; and Lyle and Nickerson received a nod for writing.
“Telling this emotional, wild, and deeply human story has been a profoundly meaningful experience and a true honor for us, and we’re so very grateful to the brilliant cast, crew and writers who have bravely gone on the journey with us to bring it to life,” Lyle and Nickerson continued. “Most of all, we want to thank the fans who have stuck with us through every moment, mystery and meal — the Hive is nothing without you! We can’t wait to share the final chapter with you and hope you find it…delicious.” All the best, A & B.”
