One Punch Man Season 3 is finally here, and fans cannot stop reacting to the highly anticipated opening. While only the first episode has been released so far, it can be streamed on a variety of platforms, including Disney+, Hulu, and Crunchyroll. Unfortunately, after six years, it seems like the show didn’t begin with the explosive start it needed to reignite the series. Many fans are stating that the overuse of exposition in the premiere doesn’t bode well for the rest of the season, and they might be right.
After the absolute disaster that was One Punch Man Season 2, fans had to wait over six years for the new season. The anime has gone through several different studios, and each has offered a somewhat disappointing result. While fans were hoping for Season 3 to bring in a new era of the series, it doesn’t look like that will be the case. That said, only the first episode has aired so far, so it’s impossible to tell for certain whether or not the anime is truly out of options.
At this point, the market is suffering from an absolute oversaturation of anime. While this is great on many levels, it makes the glaring mistakes in other series all the more obvious. Although One Punch Man was once considered the pinnacle of comedy anime, it has fallen far from the top. Saitama and the idea of his character will always be extremely popular figures, but some fans have begun to switch to the original webtoon and the manga associated with it.
In the six years that it took for One Punch Man to release another chapter, several anime have come around that fit the genre even better. Series like Mob Psycho 100, Mashle: Magic and Muscles, and Wistoria: Wand and Sword all share interesting overpowered protagonists. However, none of those other series have fallen to the wayside like Saitama’s once-favored adventure. Unfortunately, it seems like in his goal to become a hero that was beloved and fondly remembered by all, Saitama has only fallen into obscurity.
In the end, the first episode of One Punch Man, along with the fast-paced intro, has finally been released. That said, this release is far too little too late in terms of the fluctuating world of anime series. Plenty of other, more qualified anime have taken the top spot in the show’s absence, and the anime no longer solely fills the niche it once dutifully served. Unless the remaining episodes of the season can turn things around, One Punch Man just might fall into obscurity.
