Britney Spears’ first ex-husband, Jason Alexander, is calling out Kevin Federline.
On Tuesday, October 14, Alexander — who was childhood friends with the singer, 43, and briefly married her in 2004 — shared an Instagram post criticizing Federline, 47, for painting the pop star in a negative light in his memoir, You Thought You Knew.
In his post, Alexander included a photo of the former dancer looking fit — which he described as being taken before Federline began receiving child support checks from Spears — and then a snap of him looking less in shape after allegedly getting money from the “Toxic” singer for their sons Sean, 20, and Jayden, 19.
“It’s easy to point fingers now, to talk about Britney’s struggles like you were just some innocent bystander watching it all happen,” Alexander wrote in his caption. “But that’s not what went down.”
“You were her husband. You were supposed to be her protector. Instead, you were partying right alongside her — the drugs, the alcohol, the chaos… you were there for all of it,” he added. “You weren’t trying to pull her out — you were feeding off it.”
Alexander claimed Federline — who was married to Spears from 2004 to 2007 — “didn’t walk away empty-handed” from the relationship and that he financially profited off of the “Circus” hitmaker.
“You walked away with full custody, child support, and a lifestyle funded by the same woman you now want to distance yourself from,” Alexander wrote. “Let’s be honest — you became a millionaire off of her pain. And now, you want to act like the mature one, like the man who held it all together? No. That’s not growth, that’s revision.”
Alexander further alleged Federline “played the game” and “used the media and the court system to your advantage.”
“Britney has been through enough — and it’s always men trying to profit from her story while ignoring the damage they helped cause,” Alexander noted.
“You want to tell your side? Fine. But don’t pretend you were the victim or the hero. Be real. Be accountable,” he concluded. “Because those of us who were really there — who actually cared about her, not the fame — we remember how it really went down.”
In response to Federline’s claims, a representative for Spears shared a statement with People, noting, “With news from Kevin’s book breaking, once again he and others are profiting off her and sadly it comes after child support has ended with Kevin. All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James and their well-being during this sensationalism. She detailed her journey in her memoir [The Woman in Me].”
