When Glen Powell isn’t busy filming a new movie in Hollywood, he always finds his way back home. Whether it be for a Texas Longhorns football game or hosting a tailgate in a Walmart parking lot, Powell never fails to show love for his hometown and this weekend was no different.
The Twisters star made a surprise appearance at The Broken Spoke, a historic honky-tonk in Austin often frequented by locals, celebrities and tourists seeking an authentic live music capital experience. Like Dua Lipa, the Broken Spoke said in a social media post that Powell, “dropped by to do some two-stepping” and listen to one of the bar’s popular country singers.

In the words of Ella Langley’s new song, he’s from Texas I can tell by the way he’s two-stepping around the room. Award-winning Texas musician Dale Watson posted a photo on Instagram alongside Powell at the bar writing, “You never know who you’ll run into at the Spoke @glenpowell @brokenspokeatx.”
Watson, who’s been creating music and performing live for over 40 years, has shared the stage with icons including Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson, according to his website. He performed at The Broken Spoke on Saturday, October 18, to celebrate co-owners Ginny White-Peacock and Annetta White’s birthdays.
In The Broken Spoke’s series of photos, the bar cleverly wrote that Powell, “must’ve known it was Annetta and Ginny White’s Birthdays (winky face),” making his visit all the more special.

But this isn’t the first time Powell has been spotted hanging out around his stomping grounds. Earlier this month, Powell visited a South Austin Walmart, where he barbecued and took photos with fans in the parking lot to promote his new series, Chad Powers, now streaming on Hulu and Disney+.
Last year, London-born pop star Dua Lipa made it a point to learn how to two-step at The Broken Spoke while in town for her shows at Austin City Limits. Prior to that, other celebs such as wresting legend Ric Flair and actor Scott Eastwood have walked through the 61-year-old dance hall’s doors.
James and Annetta White opened The Broken Spoke in 1964 and it has since hosted country music stars like George Strait, Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton. The state landmark, which only plays live music, maintains its charm by being “the last of the true Texas dance halls,” offering two-stepping dance lessons and a truly unique honky-tonk experience like no other.
