The new “Blue Bloods” spinoff, “Boston Blue,” has a star-studded cast.
Donnie Wahlberg stars as Detective Danny Reagan, a role he previously played on all 14 seasons of “Blue Bloods.”
While “Blue Bloods” took place in New York City, “Boston Blue” is set in the Massachusetts capital. Danny takes a job with the Boston police department and gets partnered with Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), the granddaughter of renowned pastor Edwin Peters (Ernie Hudson) and the daughter of Boston District Attorney Mae Silver (Gloria Reuben).
Lena’s stepsister Sarah Silver (Maggie Lawson) and brother Jonah Silver (Marcus Scribner) also work for the Boston PD. Danny’s son Sean (Mika Amonsen) partners with Jonah after moving to Boston amid an NYPD hiring freeze. Sean was originally played by Andrew Terraciano on “Blue Bloods”.
While Wahlberg is the only “Blue Bloods” star who carried over to the main cast of “Boston Blue,” two other alums made appearances during the Oct. 17 premiere of the new spinoff. Danny’s sister Erin (Bridget Moynahan) surprised him in Boston after Sean was injured in a fire.
“Pretty sure I said nobody needed to come,” Danny told his sister.
“Since when have I ever listened to you?” Erin shot back.
Danny’s former NYPD partner Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) also appeared in one scene. The duo, who kept their relationship professional until the series finale of “Blue Bloods,” were sharing an intimate moment when Danny got a call about Sean’s injury.

Ramirez hasn’t signed on to more episodes of “Boston Blue” just yet, but co-showrunner Brandon Sonnier told Variety that Maria and Danny’s story isn’t over.
“Long-distance relationships are a thing. I think we can expect to play that relationship through and really get a sense of where they are in the progression of this relationship that we’ve been watching for a decade,” he told the outlet. “It’s a four-hour drive [from New York to Boston].”
Sonnier also confirmed that “Boston Blue” viewers can “expect some visits and trips” from other “Blue Bloods” characters.

“We truly mean that we are an expansion of the universe. It’s not just a run-of-the-mill spinoff. It is a different look at a different dynastic law enforcement family through the eyes of the Reagans. But the Reagans exist,” he said. “They are still out there in the world, living those lives that we watched for so long.”
“Blue Boods” came to an end in December 2024. In addition to Moynahan and Ramirez, the series also starred Will Estes (Jamie Reagan), Len Cariou (Henry Reagan), Tom Selleck (Frank Reagan), and Vanessa Ray (Eddie Janko-Reagan).
“Boston Blue” airs on CBS on Fridays at 10 p.m. ET. Episodes are available to stream on Paramount+ the day after they air.
