Hugh Jackman portrays Mike Sardina, the other half of the husband and wife group. The Milwaukee, Wisconsin couple toured the country in the late 1980s. Mike passed away in 2006.

On Sunday, Diamond — who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2018 — congratulated the cast on the project, which hits theaters on Christmas Day.

“I am so excited for audiences to see SONG SUNG BLUE tonight at the World Premiere in Los Angeles. Director Craig Brewer has brought an incredible love story to life, with spectacular performances by Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson,” he penned.

“I am so honored that my music gets to play a role in this film and I can’t wait for you all to see it on Christmas Day! –ND.”

That same day, Hudson told People that getting to know Diamond was “a real dream.”

The Oscar nominee said the music icon “brings people together.”

“It’s this kind of music [that’s] so American, and then at the same time, it just makes people happy,” she said at the film’s LA premiere. “There’s something about the songs that he writes. It makes people want to put their arms around each other and sing it.”

Hudson got in touch with her musical roots ahead of the film.

“Everything that I’ve studied throughout my life or my career, I get to do in one film,” she shared. “And that doesn’t happen very often.”

Hudson added that she “really connected with Claire.”

“I think it was the hair,” she quipped. “The second my hot rollers went in and came out, I just felt like a completely different person.”

“There’s something about Claire, she has this love for life,” Hudson mused about the 63-year-old, noting that she hopes the real-life performer is “happy” with the film.

“Even in the darkest moments, when you get to know her, she just powers through with this light and joy,” she continued. “There’s something about that energy that I just tapped into a little bit.”

Which impressed Hudson’s co-stars.

Ella Anderson, who plays Hudson’s on-screen daughter, Rachel Cartwright, told the outlet it was “spectacular” to watch Hudson perform Diamond’s songs.

“I was amazed by how much that she just threw herself into Claire,” she said.

Hudson also told Variety it was a “privilege” getting to know Neil and his wife, Katie. “That’s why we make movies: We have these connections with artists and sort of fall in love with each other.”

“I’m so excited. I’m nervous. I can’t wait,” she said of when the film debuts. “I just have a good feeling that people are gonna love the way this movie feels.”

“It’s a dream come true,” director Craig Brewer expressed about Diamond’s support to Variety. “When I heard that Neil was watching the movie, I thought to myself, ‘This is really the only audience I care about.’ His music means so much to me, and my hope is that all the people who love his music will love it. But my big hope is that I’ve helped add some fans of his music.”
