‘Pluribus’ 2025: Vince Gilligan’s sci-fi series where one woman fights global happiness

“Breaking Bad” creator Vince Gilligan is teaming up with “Better Call Saul” Emmy nominee Rhea Seehorn for a new sci-fi drama where happiness might be humanity’s downfall, Variety reports.

Apple TV has released the first trailer for “Pluribus,” which is set to debut with two episodes on Nov. 7. The series follows Seehorn as Carol, described as “the most miserable person on Earth” who “must save the world from happiness.”

In one scene, the President of the United States addresses her over footage of scientists working in hazmat suits: “Rest assured, Carol. We will figure out what makes you different. … So, you can join us,” he says

Despite secrecy surrounding the plot, Apple TV has already renewed the show for a second season, the report said.

According to Variety, the streaming service began teasing the series on July 25 with cryptic marketing.

A teaser clip showed Seehorn approaching a phone displaying the messages “Call us” and “No pressure,” alongside an Apple-operated phone number. Callers who dialed “0” received a text message reading: “Please know your life is your own, Carol. You have agency!”

In a 2023 interview with Variety, Gilligan distinguished “Pluribus” from his previous programs, noting it has “no crime, and no methamphetamine.”

“The world changes very abruptly in the first episode, and then it is quite different,” he explained “It’s the modern world — the world we live in — but it changes very abruptly. And the consequences that that reap hopefully provide drama for many, many episodes after that.”
