David Muir ‘sets goal’ for the future as he’s honored for 22-year career at ABC News

This week ABC broadcaster David Muir was joined students at the Temple University’s Klein College of Media and Communications in Pennsylvania to receive a prestigious award

As David Muir continues to win over audiences with his impeccable news coverage, the beloved anchor has now been honored for his hard work.

According to the ABC newscaster’s representative Van Scott, David was honored with the 2025 Lew Klein Excellence in Media Award. To accept the honor, the 51-year-old journalist joined students for an hour-long conversation at the Temple University’s Klein College of Media and Communications followed by a gala.

The journalist, who has been a staple of ABC News for the past two decades, shared a heartfelt acceptance speech as he received the award in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Muir was introduced by Debra OConnell, President, ABC News Group and Disney Entertainment Networks before accepting the award.

In his acceptance speech, Muir said, “When you travel the country, I know what I hear most often is that we have far more in common than what divides us.”

The New York native continued, “It’s a very simple premise: go into small communities across the country and celebrate people trying to make a difference for their neighbors, lifting up the people across the street, keeping that business going around the corner. People are hungry for connection. I think it’s a goal that we could all set in this room — to continue to lift people up.”

The award was first inspired by Lew Klein, an influential broadcaster and former President of the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia during 1975 and 1976. This honor is presented yearly to broadcasters who exhibit the same work ethic and dedication to delivering the truth that Klein possessed.

Past recipients of this award include writer, producer and actress Quinta Brunson, Oscar- and Grammy-winning musician Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, comedian Tina Fey, sports icon Charles Barkley, and New York Times Executive Editor Dean Baquet.

While speaking to students at the college, Muir said, “I have never forgotten all of those people who said yes to me, who answered that call, who encouraged me. It’s so important that we all in this room remember to look behind us and make sure the doors open for the next person to come through.”

Other famous faces in attendance at the ceremony included ABC News President Almin Karamehmedovic, World News Tonight Executive Producer Chris Dinan, Chief Justice Correspondent Pierre Thomas, and WPVI President and General Manager Bernie Prazenica.
