The Dysons’ FaceTime call asking Adam Rehberg to be their baby’s godfather has been viewed more than two million times
Adam’s tearful response reflected more than surprise — it was the weight of 11 years of friendship and shared life experiences
Precious Dyson says she filmed the moment for her son to cherish one day, never expecting the clip to resonate so deeply online
A tearful FaceTime call between three lifelong friends has captured the hearts of millions online, but for the Dyson family and their closest friend, it was much more than a viral moment.
“Well, first of all, I was caught off guard,” Adam Rehberg tells PEOPLE, recalling the moment Ammar Dyson asked him to be the godfather of his newborn son. “I didn’t know what the call was about, but instantly when I processed the question, everything that I know the Dysons have been through over the last 10 years rushed through my head.”
For Ammar, the choice had been clear from the beginning. “We’ve been friends for 11 years, and being my best friend, it was just an easy ask for me, especially with it being my first son,” he says.
The decision was met with a reaction that surprised even Ammar, but Adam explains that his tears reflected a deeper connection. “My love for them is hard to articulate, but the raw emotion you all saw I still feel,” he says.
“It’s a spiritual connection that I have with my friends that are family, and I’m comfortable in my emotions because they’re genuine, and I believe it’s a characteristic of the Lord,” Adam continues.
The friends’ story includes moments of profound loss. In 2023, Ammar unexpectedly lost his older brother. Despite the distance, Adam dropped everything to be with his friend.

“He drove all the way to D.C. to be there with me, and he was there throughout the entire time,” Ammar recalls.
Ammar’s wife, Precious Dyson, who filmed the emotional exchange, says she was moved as both a wife and a mother. “Ammar and Adam’s friendship is so encouraging to me because I have seen them support one another, but it’s a brotherhood that you can’t make up,” she tells PEOPLE. “Friends come and go, but Adam has been constant in our lives and hasn’t wavered, even when we moved across the country.”
She reflects on her own childhood to explain what the bond means to her family now. “I grew up as a military brat, so I moved a lot, and my mom would always tell us if you have one good friend, you’re blessed,” she says.
The families’ children are also closely connected. “Our middle daughters still call each other best friends and FaceTime just to color and draw,” she shares.
For Precious, the viral clip holds a deeper purpose. “The reason I even recorded it was because it’s something I knew I’d want to show Beau one day, and I knew Adam was going to give a good reaction,” she says.
“I didn’t expect his reaction per se, but just knowing how genuine Adam was, I thought Beau will probably appreciate this one day,” Precious explains.
What started as a simple post quickly grew beyond their expectations. “I literally posted it and then closed my phone, and the next day I was like, Oh my gosh, this video is about to go viral,” Precious says. “Ammar and I were sitting on the couch in the evening, and it just kept going, the comments and the views,” she says.
“People crave authenticity, and that’s what resonated in their hearts watching that video,” Adam says of the video’s virality.

The viral fame hasn’t changed their friendship. “It honestly draws you back to realize we really got something special that we don’t think about as often until a moment like this happens,” Ammar explains.
Adam says the video’s reception reflects a cultural need. “Society doesn’t teach people that it’s okay for men to be vulnerable, but it is healthy, and I think that’s why people responded the way they did,” he shares.
The roots of their friendship run back more than a decade. The couple originally met Adam when they were invited to a Bible study hosted at his house.

From that moment, they clicked instantly. “It started with just pure silliness, laughter that would hurt our stomachs, and from there, we just connected,” Ammar says. “Our wives loved each other, we went on vacations, and we had kids almost at the same time, and it all just worked out,” he says.
Even the friend who introduced them remains part of their story. “He’s now battling ALS, and as a group of friends we’ve been praying for him, because he’s the glue that got us all together in the beginning,” Ammar says.

Precious says she admires Adam’s devotion as both a friend and a man of faith. “I’m going to make sure that Beau knows who Adam is and why his dad chose him,” she says. “He exemplifies integrity, kindness and gentleness, and those are all the things I would want my son to look up to outside of just his dad.”
“I’ve never had a godfather growing up, so I don’t know the experience that Beau is about to get, but I’m excited because I think we made the best choice for him,” Ammar says.

He sees Adam’s presence as part of a larger community. “It takes a village, and the more voices he has to encourage him, the better, especially as a ministry kid who will need guidance along the way,” Ammar explains.
That intentional role is one Adam takes seriously, noting he’s looking forward to “becoming another father figure” to Beau. “Life is full of highs and valleys, and I want to be there to support him through them all,” Adam adds.
