WME Signs ‘Dance Parents’ Writer Meghan Malloy (EXCLUSIVE)

Writer Meghan Malloy has signed with WME for representation in all areas.

Malloy is currently writing “Dance Parents,” an original comedy feature starring Charlize Theron and Channing Tatum, with Jonathan Levine (“50/50,” “Long Shot,” “Nine Perfect Strangers”) attached to direct. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the film is reported to be set in the competitive dance world, which is known for its super-passionate parents. The family comedy, also produced by Theron, Tatum and Levine, ultimately sold to Universal following a six-studio bidding war.

Malloy’s career breakthrough came as a writer on the Oscar-winning “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” for Sony Pictures Animation. Following her success there, she proceeded to work on major studio franchises and IP at the studio, including “21 Jump Street,” which stars Tatum and Jonah Hill; the animated musical comedy “Vivo”; and the sports comedy “GOAT,” from Stephen Curry’s Unanimous Media. Malloy also contributed additional material to Dreamworks Animation’s “Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken” and worked on “Where’s Waldo.” She is known for her ability to develop projects for high-level talent, including her work with Tatum and Theron, as well as Drew Barrymore.

Malloy began her career as a development assistant at NBCUniversal and Mick Jagger’s Jagged Films before working as Jon Favreau’s assistant for the films “Chef” and “The Jungle Book.” In 2015, she started working as “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” co-writer and co-director Rodney Rothman’s writer’s assistant. In 2020, Malloy was tapped to develop a live-action English-language TV adaptation of the popular manga series “The Promised Neverland” for Amazon.

WME will work with Malloy to continue building her writing career and expand into directing and producing. In addition to WME, Malloy continues to be represented by Sydney Blanke at Sugar 23 and Mahdi Salehi at Hansen Jacobson.
