Bruce Willis’ wife, Emma Heming Willis, has hit back at critics who have been quick to judge her family’s approach to dealing with the Hollywood star’s dementia diagnosis.
At the End Well 2025 conference in Los Angeles, California, Emma, 47, boldly told the audience, “F- -k em! As Bruce would say,” when discussing the criticism she’s faced. The conference, which took place on Thursday, also featured Yvette Nicole Brown, 54, who shared her own experiences as a caregiver for her father.
Bruce’s diagnosis became public knowledge a few years ago when his family announced in 2023 that he had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, a year after they revealed he was “stepping away” due to his aphasia. Emma, author of The Unexpected Journey, shared her go-to response to criticism with Yvette after the Community alum asked her about the backlash she received earlier this year when she moved the Die Hard star out of their family home due to his condition.
Emma explained at the time that her husband would’ve wanted their two daughters’ lives to remain unaffected by any changes to their home. However, her explanation did little to silence online critics who condemned her decision, reports the Mirror US.
“I tell you, when I heard about the house thing, I wanted to throw elbows for you, honey,” Yvette said, referring to those who attacked Emma online over the situation.
“Because the thing is, what people don’t understand who aren’t caregivers, is that every caregivee is different, especially if you’re dealing with dementia or alzheimer’s, it’s very unwieldy… And we all are doing our best and making the best decisions for your family. So when I came for you, I wanted to come for them,” she further elaborated.
Emma became emotional while discussing the “impossible decisions” she had to make following her husband’s heartbreaking diagnosis.
“This is not how I envisioned our life,” she confessed, tears welling in her eyes. “So I had to make the best and safest decision for our family. And I knew, by being honest and open about it, that it would be met with a lot of judgment.”
Emma and Bruce exchanged vows in 2009, and they have two daughters, Marabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11. Since their new living arrangements, Emma explained that she brings their children over to Bruce’s home to maintain their family bond.
