A visit to New Shoreham, or Block Island, means beaches, hiking, views
Had the federal government heeded the advice of farmers, they never would have had to move a lighthouse 300 feet back from the bluffs.
The Jonas Brothers, who brought their “Jonas20: Greetings From Your Hometown” 20th anniversary tour to the Amica Mutual Pavilion on Thursday, Nov. 20, added a truly hometown touch to the show.
Opening for his brothers Nick, Joe, and Kevin Jonas, Franklin Jonas − often referred to as the “Bonus Jonas” who is also a singer-songwriter − sang his very own rendition of the Block Island Ferry jingle. You know the one − “Sail away on the Block Island Ferry. Take a trip back to care-free times. Leave today, Block Island awaits you. Just leave your worries behind. Come with me to Block Island.”
The catchy tune is perhaps the best known Rhode Island jingle, and even made it into The Journal’s bracket-style competition for the “Most Rhode Island Thing Ever” back in October.
Franklin Jonas teased in an Instagram post that he’d likely sing a “local” song as part of his set.
Suffice it to say that the Block Island Ferry was duly impressed. “We don’t want to make this a big deal or anything … but @franklinjonas sang our ‘jingle’ last night at the AMP in Providence when he opened for his brothers.”
Who is Franklin Jonas?
While he was too young to join his Disney Channel star brothers when they first began performing (he’s eight years younger than the next-youngest, Nick), Frankie Jonas is multi-talented. He’s an actor and comic book writer, and co-hosts “Claim to Fame,” a reality show with older brother Kevin.
All four Jonas brothers − along with Jesse McCartney, who is also an opening act on the tour − are headed to Cincinnati next.
All that’s left now is for Taylor Swift to do a cover of “Pizza Chip Joe” DeLuca’s Original Italian Bakery jingle. (You’ll recall that Swift dated Joe Jonas back in 2008 − in fact, that’s when she became friendly with bestie Selena Gomez, who was dating Nick Jonas at the time, and Gomez has visited Swift at her Watch Hill home.)
