New Spotify features reveal the people and real stories behind your favourite songs

What’s happened? Spotify has launched new features that give listeners a deeper insight into the people, connections, and stories behind the music they love.

• The update brings three major additions: Expanded Song Credits, SongDNA, and About the Song.

• Using these features, you learn more about who made each track, how songs relate to each other, and what inspired them.

This is important because: It gives you new ways to explore songs and the talent behind them. Here are the new features and how you’ll use them:

• Expanded Song Credits: Instead of listing only the main artists and producers, Spotify now shows a fuller list of contributors for each track, such as engineers, background vocalists, session musicians, and more.

• SongDNA: An interactive feature (for Premium users) to see how tracks are connected; with collaborations, samples, and cover versions, all mapped in one place. For example, you’ll see which tracks inspired a song or were reused in it.

• About the Song: It appears as swipeable cards in the Now Playing view and shares background info on what inspired the song, its cultural roots, and more.

Why should I care? Spotify is making listening richer and more meaningful for fans who care about music creation or want to dig deeper.

• You can now satisfy your curiosity while listening to music by finding out why that loop sounds familiar, who played that part, or how two songs are connected via SongDNA.

• Those who build playlists looking for new music will get more tools to explore hidden connections, samples, or how a particular sound was built.

Spotify has been rolling out a bunch of changes lately, including tools that help you track concerts at your favourite venues, turned Wrapped into a weekly insights feature, fixed shuffle so playlists don’t repeat the same tracks, and get quick recaps of audiobooks you are listening to.

OK, what’s next? If you’re an artist or in production, review your song credit panel so that every member is properly listed.

• Expanded Song Credits begin appearing immediately on mobile and continue to desktop over the coming months.

• SongDNA and About the Song will be available to Premium users next year. But these tools will roll out first as a Preview to artists (so they can check accuracy) and then to listeners over time.
