Olivia Rodrigo’s Newest Song Breaks A Longstanding Tradition

This week on our Discovery Playlist we’ve added ten new tracks in celebration of Ausmusic Month — and fittingly, every single one comes from an Australian-based artist. Leading the pack is our Track of the Week, Seb Szabo + Joan & the Giants with their joyous new single “Figure It Out”. A radiant celebration of friendship from two of Australia’s most heartfelt storytellers, it’s the perfect burst of optimism to anchor this week’s selection.

“Figure It Out” shines with open-hearted warmth, capturing Seb and Grace’s shared journey through new chapters, messy dating escapades and the kind of friendship that pulls you through the worst days with humour and heart. Written between Seb’s Fitzroy home studio and Grace’s grandmother’s beach shack in WA, the track blends shimmering alt-pop production with candid, intertwined perspectives — a reminder that no matter how chaotic life gets, “somehow we’ll figure it out.” A big-hearted singalong built for summer.

As both artists close out their huge 2025s, the track arrives right as Joan & the Giants kick off a sold-out national run supporting The Fray on the How To Save a Life 20th Anniversary tour. Meanwhile, Seb is gearing up for his All I Want Is You Tour, hitting Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne throughout December (tickets HERE). “Figure It Out” is set to be a highlight on both stages.

This week sees the release of Take It All, the cinematic debut album from Beth and Blue, the collaborative project of solo artists Imogen Grist (Babitha) and Marcus Index. The album’s focus track “A Song About Defeat” offers a look inside into the duo’s world. It’s lush, emotionally charged, and a little bit complicated. It’s gorgeous though, with some captivating pedal steel running through it all; a Dylanesque central vocal, and then there’s the harmonies! Beautiful. The duo will be launching the record at The Vanguard in Sydney on December 4th. Tickets are available HERE.

Fresh off East Coast runs with The Vanns and Brad Cox, Joe Mungovan returns with his third release of the year, the indie-rock burner “Hurts”. It’s an emotionally unhinged ode to a situationship fuelled by the intoxicating thrill of the chase — the kind where you know better, but the chaos is just too compelling to walk away from. Pulling sonic cues from Balu Brigada, The Jungle Giants and a nostalgic hit of Franz Ferdinand, Joe threads a seriously addictive melody through the excitement, frustration and inevitable disappointment of wanting someone who probably isn’t good for you. Joe will be heading out for a short Hurts tour through NSW, with dates in Kiama (29th Nov), Newcastle (30th Nov) and Freshwater, Sydney (3rd Jan).

“Preacher” is the new single from Naarm-based Local the Neighbour, a project from musician David Quested. The track is inspired by experiences of religious trauma and that feeling of growing away from something that once felt so familiar and which was a source of comfort. It powerfully captures that tension that comes with getting older, where childhood beliefs jut against adult self-discovery; all amidst a backdrop of swirling guitars and DIY aesthetics.

A long-time AU favourite, annie hamilton finally delivers the studio release of fan-favourite “rosemary”, a track she has performed live for years at the request of her audience. Written for a friend in a moment of need and co-produced with Bonnie Knight, it drifts between euphoric highs and introspective lows, capturing Hamilton’s gift for finding beauty in unvarnished, everyday moments —  “the sun’s in the hallway, it’s streaming through the doorway, let’s lie on the carpet, I think you would like it.”. With its immersive textures and vivid, intimate imagery, “rosemary” blooms into a golden-hour swell of indie-pop that feels like nostalgia, catharsis and comfort all at once.

“For Now” is the gorgeous new single from Naarm singer-songwriter Tulliah – her second for the year. According to Tulliah, ‘“For Now” was written about feeling a sense of hopelessness, however reminding yourself that you are not alone and that it’s a universal experience to feel that way.’ It’s a really beautiful track; not only thanks to Tulliah’s emotive  vocals, but that captivating instrumentation – the strings, the keys, the guitars, all just elevate the track further. Melbourne fans can catch Tulliah at a one-off intimate performance at Abbotsford Convent on Friday 5th December. Limited tickets are available HERE.

Melbourne singer-songwriter Madi Leeds pivots into a darker, indie-leaning lane on her new single “Nightmare”, swapping the pop sheen of earlier releases for a grittier edge reminiscent of Slow Pulp, Snail Mail and Soccer Mommy. Written during a period of existential dread, health anxiety and the creeping fear of getting older, the track threads these anxieties through woozy guitars and a gently unravelling vocal delivery. Inspired in part by a lucid dream — the classic “old hag” sleep-paralysis figure — Madi turns that unsettling imagery into a metaphor for being haunted by your future self, and the fear of waking up one day wishing you’d lived more boldly.

Also added this week is “Further Down The Road,” the first single from William Crighton’s upcoming album Colonial Drift, out March 20th. Co-written with his wife Julieanne Crighton — who also provides haunting backing vocals. It’s a powerful first taste of what’s shaping up to be one of 2026’s most compelling Australian releases, and we can’t wait to hear more.

Finally, we also have the new single, “Shouldn’t” from Australian pop act Jemma Siles from her new EP Scripts of Fate (out today); as well as “Suit Vibes” the new energetic and urgent single from Australia’s (the world’s?) most remote rap crew – Dem Mob. The group have a huge run of dates between now and May so make sure you catch them on the road.
