The music and mind of Alicia Keys comes to life through the new touring show “Hell’s Kitchen,” which opens Tuesday at the Saenger Theatre.
Family, music and life fuse into a dynamic display roughly based on Keys’ life as told through the story of a 17-year-old New Yorker, with a backdrop of music by the Grammy-winning singer/songwriter and author.
In the show, which is still running on Broadway after opening in 2024, Ali faces issues many young people encounter, such as how one fits into the world. Through the help of family, mentors and the neighborhood, she makes changes and heads forward.
The soundtrack for the Tony Award-winning show includes some of Keys’ top hits, including “Fallin’,” “Girl on Fire” and “If I Ain’t Got You,” plus new songs written for the musical.
The show isn’t Keys’ first foray into the world of musicals. She composed and help produce the short-lived “Stick Fly” in 2011.
For “Hell’s Kitchen,” she has teamed with writer Kristoffer Diaz for the story, and tennis superstar Serena Williams has come aboard on the producing team for the national tour, which began in October.

Taking the lead role will be recent high school graduate Maya Drake, of San Jose, California, who has appeared in “Law & Order: SVU.”
