The freshly released video and images of the subject of interest in the suspected kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie was delayed by an “unfortunate series of events.”

The FBI have finally been able to release photos and surveillance footage of an individual tampering with Savannah Guthrie‘s 84-year-old mother Nancy’s Nest doorbell camera before she vanished from her home, 10 days after she disappeared. The footage taken in the early hours of February 1, was made public on Tuesday, February 10.

It was initially believed that the video was irretrievable after Nancy’s camera was disconnected from the network, with investigators previously sharing that no video was available as a result. However the FBI have since worked with tech companies to obtain the vital clips and stills.

Speaking on NBC news Liz Kreutz said, “It has been extremely frustrating and it was an agonizing wait for the family and for so many over the past 10 days waiting for some kind of image like this to emerge. You would have thought it could have come up within hours with the number of cameras that exist right now in cities and communities.

“What ultimately happened was an unfortunate series of events it seems. This man or this person did disconnect the camera at the door, and Nancy Guthrie did have other cameras on the property, but she didn’t have a subscription. So without a subscription the other cameras weren’t really recording any video and they weren’t being held back in some kind of database by the tech companies.

“But the federal authorities have been working with the tech companies they subpoenaed them to be able to try to see if there was any way they’d be able to go back and recover some of this footage. We were talking to Google, they said that they were assisting law enforcement, they’re the owners of Nest, and it appears now, it may have taken 10 days, but that has been successful, and they have been able to recover these images.”

Multiple images of the subject show what appears to be a masked man tampering with the Nest camera at her home. The series of black-and-white pictures show the subject standing in the doorway of Nancy’s Tucson, Arizona, home, wearing what appears to be jeans, a zip-up sweatshirt, leather gloves, and sneakers.

The subject also appeared to have something in his left hand. “It does appear to be a gun,” NBC News correspondent Tom Winter said.

Pima County Sheriff’s department said in a statement, “Over the last eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been working closely with our private sector partners to continue to recover any images or video footage from Nancy Guthrie‘s home that may have been lost, corrupted, or inaccessible due to a variety of factors, including the removal of recording devices. The video was recovered from residual data located in backend systems.

“Working with our partners – as of this morning, law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance.”

Nancy, 84, vanished from her home in the early hours of February 1, with law enforcement convinced she was abducted after being dropped home by family at around 9.48 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, after having dinner with her daughter and son-in-law at their home.

Her doorbell camera was found to have disconnected at 1:47 am on February 1, at 2:12 am the camera detected movement, and by 2:28 am Nancy’s pacemaker disconnected from her Apple watch indicating it was no longer in range.

Blood spatter found on her porch was then confirmed to be Nancy’s.

FBI Director Kash Patel shared the images and footage on social media, urging anyone with information to contact the FBI.

He wrote, “New images in the search for Nancy Guthrie: Over the last eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been working closely with our private sector partners to continue to recover any images or video footage from Nancy Guthrie’s home that may have been lost, corrupted, or inaccessible due to a variety of factors – including the removal of recording devices.”
