The royal family might be in trouble due to former Prince Andrew‘s arrest. He was reportedly arrested due to suspicion of misconduct in public office. After hours, he was released by the Thames Valley police station, but his name was not mentioned in the statement. Now, as per a royal author, the royal family will be under scrutiny if they are found to have been aware of Andrew’s wrongdoings before his arrest.

According to royal author Robert Jobson, the monarchy will face heat if they are found to have known about Andrew’s wrongdoings before his arrest. Andrew was allegedly arrested on his 66th birthday and released around 6.50 pm from Aylsham police station.

Jobson told PEOPLE, “When these things went on, he was Prince Andrew, Duke of York.” The author further added, “He was right at the heart of the royal family and appointed by the late Queen [Elizabeth] and the government.” He continued, “It is one thing kicking him out now and saying he is a bad apple.” However, “they didn’t have due diligence in place.”

“The problem will be — who knew what and when and why was nothing done?” the 67-year-old said. The historian further explained, “If it comes out that people knew stuff — whether it be members of the family or police or staffers — then heads must roll.”

Moreover, Jobson shared that King Charles isn’t responsible for his brother’s conduct. However, this moment should act as a wake-up call for the royals to move ahead. “Charles is not guilty of anything here. But the monarchy needs to change,” he said.

Jobson continued, “They can’t hide behind the Official Secrets Act and the lack of Freedom of Information.” The historian also remarked, “They have to be as accountable and transparent as a government department. All these whispers here or there, they have to be much firmer in the way they approach things.” He concluded, “The lack of accountability and the lack of transparency has led to complacency which has led to this problem. They have to be clearer and more transparent.”
