This Sunday, March 29, LA Artisteada, a podcast dedicated to spotlighting a wide range of artistic voices, will host “Take the Stage”, a live event creating space for women of color in response to their underrepresentation in the music industry.
In celebration of Women’s History Month, the event showcases what many music festival lineups often lack: a fully female-led lineup. Women of color will take center stage, and community members across Los Angeles are invited to join in celebrating their artistry.
“Take the Stage” will feature women who are multi-instrumentalists and vocalists, such as Dulce Agave, which is an L.A. based group that plays a mixture of Mariachi, Norteno and even oldies. Members of the group include Lily Blanco on vihuela, Claudia Lique on guitarron and Desiree Zavala on accordion.
Santa Mykah, a bilingual Latin artist from San Diego, is another performer featured in the lineup. She is known for blending reggaetón and trap with emotionally driven storytelling.
Zamythi, a Guatemalan L.A.-based DJ, will be the official DJ for the event. Her sets blend Latin, Afro Diaspora, and Electronic influences with unexpected selections that keep crowds engaged and unified.
Podcast host Kiara Gonzalez Duran said it’s crucial to host events like “Take the Stage” because “the industry as a whole is majority male-dominated,” and there aren’t enough spaces where women of color are truly prioritized.
“That is why it is important to create spaces like this one and we are really trying to build a space that is sustainable so we envision this to become a music festival where women of color are at the center,” she said.

Duran, an entertainment industry veteran, believes that there’s a lack of representation when it comes to women of color in the music industry. “A lot of the jobs that are being offered are within the network. Like people know about these opportunities through networks. People recommend each other based on who you know. And although I think that people may be trying to make a change, it’s really hard, especially when the majority of the industry is white and male,” she said. “I also think that the industry pushes people of color out, because it’s a waiting game in this industry.”
“Take the Stage” will feature artists spanning Hip-Hop, R&B, Cumbia, and many more genres. Don’t miss the chance to support female artists who are paving the way for the next generation of emerging talent.
