With warmer days on the horizon, many people are after that perfect sun-kissed glow. But if you’re avoiding excess sun exposure—or just not getting much sunshine where you live—Live with Kelly and Mark co-host Kelly Ripa swears by a simple beauty secret: tanning drops for a natural-looking glow without the salon.
The Live with Kelly and Mark star is often photographed at events with radiant, bronzed skin. In a 2021 episode of Live with Kelly and Ryan, Kelly chats with former co-host (and fellow talk TV personality) Ryan Seacrest, and reveals that her natural-looking glow actually comes from applying a few drops of Tan-Luxe self-tan drops in the morning.
In the episode, Kelly briefly talks about doing her makeup that morning and shouts out Tan-Luxe. “They’re tanning drops, you put it in your moisturizer,” Kelly explains to Ryan. “You put it on, and your tan develops slowly.” In raving about the drops, she also shared that the line has several other products (like an overnight mask and spray mists) that help develop your tan.
“This product is remarkable,” Kelly continues telling Ryan. “It stains nothing!” She adds that the application process is “literally like applying moisturizer,” but you have to be mindful of how you apply it for an even color.
Even better, our chemists and beauty scientists at the Good Housekeeping Institute Beauty & Personal Care Lab are familiar with the brand and recently named their Gradual Illuminating Tanning Lotion the best gradual self-tanner in a Lab test, where it delivered natural, streak-free results.
“I liked the even tone of the color and the way my skin felt,” one tester said. “I noticed no blotchiness.” Other testers noted that there was “no orange tint” and the product gave “a nice glow.” For best results, our pros recommend applying with a tanning mitt.
I found both Tan-Luxe products on Amazon, and each item is $50 or less. Note that the tanning drops listed above are for your face, but the brand also has drops for your body. The Gradual Illuminating Tanning Lotion is formulated for your body.
