Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been visiting Australia this week, but people have now drawn attention to the Duchess as the tour continues. The couple have had a jam-packed week so far during their travels, but some think Meghan Markle appears to have made a “blunder” during recent events.
During an appearance with Prince Harry, her latest move has been branded “hypocritical” by some due to previous comments she’s made about fashion when working with the Royal family. After wearing a certain outfit, social media users were quick to point out something they considered to be pretty vital on X.
It comes after people speculated about their relationship earlier this week. Previously, it was reported Prince Harry displayed a telling gesture that said a lot about their marriage.
Writing on X, one person said: “Didn’t Meghan Markle state that ‘being required to wear pantyhose (tights) as a Royal felt inauthentic and not very herself’. She said she hadn’t worn them since the 1980s and described the rule as a ‘silly example’ of the limitations she felt on her personal expression and comfort. So what’s that on her legs?”
Oher people also noticed it too, with another writing: “Who remembers what Meghan Markle said about wearing pantyhose?”
To this, someone else replied: “My first thought when I saw this pic. Her words are coming back to bite her!”
Another wrote: “Yes, I immediately thought of that as soon as I saw her in this outfit. Such a hypocrite.” One more also noted: “I was just thinking that! Hypocrite.”
However, some thought the criticism went too far, as they said she appeared to be much more specific in her earlier remarks. A social media user noted: “But those were nude hose not black hose, just like that was Meghan Duchess of Sussex and this is Meg. Totally different things.”
Another added: “In a 2025 interview, Meghan Markle stated that being required to wear nude pantyhose as a working Royal felt ‘inauthentic’ and ‘not very myself’. Do they look nude to you? You are really scraping the barrel now!”
If you don’t know what the comments refer to, Meghan talked about how she felt “inauthentic” wearing pantyhose in a previous interview. Previously she gave an in-depth interview to Bloomberg’s The Circuit With Emily Chang when she was launching the second series of her Netflix lifestyle show.
At the time, she claimed she “had to wear nude pantyhose all the time” as a member of the Royal family, which she said felt “a little bit inauthentic.” Back then, Meghan alleged she “couldn’t be as vocal”, and also noted she wasn’t able to dress in the way she wanted to.
This is why people don’t understand why she’s been spotted wearing tights, even though the ones she recently wore were black. It comes as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s tour enters day three after Harry made some solo visits to a war memorial and mental health charity when Meghan made a TV appearance.
As the couple embark on outings together again, they have so far been met with warm welcomes from crowds across Melbourne as their trip entered a third day. The couple took part in an Aboriginal walk in Melbourne along the Yarra river, which marked their most public outing so far.
It’s reported one boy told Meghan he loved Suits, the TV show she starred in as an actress. Meanwhile, Harry made way so the fan could get a picture with his wife.
They’ve been seen posing for selfies with members of the public, and scenes are reported to have descended into mayhem as Harry was forced to intervene to shield the pair from journalists. Despite the alleged “blunder” being highlighted, crowds are turning out to see them as they continue their tour.
