According to a source who spoke with the Daily Mail, the push for Whoopi’s departure after two decades behind the desk stems from claims that the Ghost star is unable to afford retirement despite her $8 million/year salary and repeated public spats with conservative guests and co-hosts.
However, the insider also suggested that producers may be baiting Whoopi by booking more right-leaning guests, such as RFK Jr.’s wife, Cheryl Hines, and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.
The insider revealed that the show’s “producers and the ladies believe all the negative talk of turmoil is coming from those in the Trump administration and other Republicans that don’t like the show or the ladies.”
They also noted that “many believe that a continued effort is being made to put negative news out there to get a reaction and also for them to materialize it to become true.”
Former View co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck recently returned to fill in for Alyssa while she was on maternity leave, which was reportedly a “strategic” move by showrunners to “push” Whoopi out.
