Cannes Film Festival 2026: Best Dressed

The 2026 Cannes Film Festival has once again transformed the French Riviera into the center of global cinema, fashion and celebrity culture. Across two extraordinary weeks, Cannes becomes a nonstop spectacle with daytime photo calls beside the Mediterranean, yacht lunches and interviews in the afternoon, followed by dazzling evening premieres on the legendary red carpet outside the Palais des Festivals. Not to mention the evening galas from luxury brands and the movie premier’s after parties happening all over the beach clubs where industry insiders — and a few party crashers — in their fitted corseted gown do their best to dance the night away. There is a Vegas-esque, tragic flavor somewhere in there, making it all even better.

This year, Joan Collins, Jane Fonda and Demi Moore have emerged among the festival’s standout style icons so far, proving Cannes remains the ultimate stage for timeless glamour. I am such a fan of these three ladies and their red carpet enduring magic.

Since its founding in 1946, the Cannes red carpet has represented far more than fashion. Unlike Hollywood award shows focused mainly on American entertainment, Cannes attracts filmmakers, actors, royalty and fashion houses from every continent, making it the most international and prestigious red carpet in the world.

The staircase itself has produced unforgettable moments in fashion history. In 1955, Grace Kelly attended Cannes in an elegant Christian Dior silhouette before meeting Prince Rainier of Monaco during the festival, a meeting that would change high society and fashion history forever. One of the most famous photographs from that visit shows her in a delicate floral dress that perfectly captured ’50s glamour, well in retrospect, any era’s glamour.

Princess Diana created another defining Cannes moment in 1987 when she arrived in a flowing powder blue chiffon Catherine Walker gown with matching scarf detail and aquamarine jewelry. In my opinion, the look remains one of the most iconic royal fashion appearances ever photographed.

Cannes has also celebrated bold rebellion. In 1991, Madonna shocked the world at the premiere of “Truth or Dare” when she appeared in Jean Paul Gaultier’s legendary cone bra ensemble and dramatically removed her robe on the carpet, redefining red carpet fashion forever. Hard to top that!
