Celebrities often experience strange fan encounters, but Caitríona Balfe’s story is extra weird.
The “Outlander” star was going under anesthesia when she realized the doctor was a fan. “I think my weirdest [fan encounter] was an anesthesiologist who decided to start singing the theme tune to me as she was putting me under. That was a lot. She’s supposed to be keeping me alive,” Balfe told People.
The Starz fantasy show recently concluded its eighth and final season, and Balfe admitted filming the show’s last episodes was an emotional process. “I cried like 20 times this season,” she explained. “I was like, ‘Wait, I just can’t stop being emotional.’ I mean, it was like this has been a humongous part of our lives, and everybody on the show has been a huge team to be on something that’s long. It’s been like 12 years.”
Previously, the “Ford v Ferrari” actress discussed the pressure she and co-star Sam Heughan felt while filming the eighth season. “[We] felt so much responsibility to make it right, and everything felt heightened,” she said.
Balfe added, “It was an emotionally taxing nine months. All of us took some time off as well, because I think you do — well, at least for me, I’ll speak for myself — but I wanted to process it and I wanted to honor the experience of the character by letting it go, in a healthy way.”
Balfe made sure to take some mementos from her time on set. “I got a vase, and also I asked for my rings, and I got my rings I feel like if I’ve gone through that many marriages [in the show], I deserve the hardware,” she said.
