Legendary performer Diana Ross will perform for one night only at Stamford’s Palace Theatre, the theater announced Tuesday.
Ross, who began her career as a teenager in Detroit and then rose to international stardom with The Supremes, will appear Aug. 16 at the historic theater.
The performance is part of the theater’s 100th anniversary celebration. according to a release. Ross last performed in Stamford as the theater’s Gala main act in 2011, according to the release.
“Her return serves as the glittering centerpiece for the countdown to the theatre’s centennial year, bridging the golden era of Motown with the vibrant future of the performing arts,” according to the release.
One of the top entertainers of the 20th century, Ross scored 12 number-one pop hits with the Supremes, securing the all-time record for the most number-one songs by a girl group on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, according to Ultimate Classic Rock. The hits included classics like “Baby Love” and “Stop! In the Name of Love.”
In 1970, Diana Ross stepped out on her own with the album “Diana Ross.” Its single “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” then rose to the top of the Billboard 100, according to Forbes.
