The Music at Joanna Furnace event returns to historic Joanna Furnace on June 5 from 4 to 9 p.m. This year’s event, which is free, not only will feature an evening of music but will also include craft vendors, lawn games and lots of festival foods and drinks for families to enjoy.

DJ G. Yoder from Morgantown will delight the crowd with a variety of folk, bluegrass and Irish music at 4 p.m.. Then at 6, the featured group, The Get Reels, will take the stage and preform a variety of reels, jigs, ballads and good time music.

The Get Reels are a Celto-eclectic band originally formed in Nashville, Tenn., in 2010. Today they are a Reading-based band that is made up of Gideon Alden (Celtic flute, vocals, and some percussion); Dianne Garzarelli Degler (vocals, percussion, some string instruments); and Jack Loughead (electric bass, standup bass, and vocals).

In addition, Rebecca Mogey (one of the band’s composers) plays fiddle, mandolin, and sings; and Will Mogey (who also composed band music) plays guitar, banjo, mandolin and also sings. Sometimes you will see a bouzouki being played. This group can be seen alternating vocal parts and sometimes singing in five piece harmonies.

The Get Reels have performed for about four years at Joanna Furnace, Berks Fiddle Fest, Middle TN Highland Games, for school events, Flanagan’s Pub in Shillington, Jim Dietrich Park events and a multitude of other venues.

The Get Reels play Celtic/celto-eclectic with jigs, reels, ballads, bluegrass, gypsy jazz, country, originals, and different sounds and styles to bring an eclectic and energized feel to events big and small.

Food, crafts and lawn games will be available the entire evening.

The Hay Creek Volunteers will cook a wide menu of items including chicken tenders, hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches, soups, french fries, homemade baked goods, ice cream sundaes, coffee, iced tea, lemonade and sodas. Detwiler Brewing, located in Robeson Township, will also be selling its ale.

Everyone is invited to play corn hole and kan jam, a flying disc game, played with a flying disc and two cans into which players deflect the disc. Guests are also invited to stroll the historic Joanna Furnace grounds and visit the old ironmaking buildings.

A variety of craft vendors will be selling their wares. This includes vendors selling patriotic, primitive and home decor items; wood crafts; botanical crafts; heat transfer T-shirt printing; chocolates and candy; and more.

Bring blankets, lawn chairs and pop-up tents to enjoy the music.

Historic Joanna Furnace is off Route 10, three miles north of Morgantown. Turn onto Furnace Road and proceed to site entrance. Admission and parking to the Music at Joanna Furnace is free. All proceeds from Hay Creek events support educational and restoration projects through the Hay Creek Valley Historical Association and this significant 18th and 19th historic site.
