Last week we reported on LyricFind filing an updated complaint in its lawsuit against rival Musixmatch. Now the latter company has responded.
LyricFind published its new filing in a ‘redlined’ version to highlight some of the new accusations of anticompetitive behaviour that it is making against Musixmatch. “Several pieces of highly inculpatory evidence that directly substantiates its claims,” as it put it.
However, Musixmatch is sticking to its guns in fighting the lawsuit, which was originally sparked by a licensing deal it signed with publisher Warner Chappell Music.
“We maintain that the plaintiff is continuing to challenge a perfectly legitimate commercial arrangement that dates back to 2024,” Musixmatch’s spokesperson told Music Ally. “It remains our view that the claim is without merit and we remain confident in our legal position.”
Unless there’s a settlement, that confidence seems increasingly likely to be put to the test in court. In September, the judge in the case dismissed some of LyricFind’s complaints, but allowed others to go forward.
