Zoë Kravitz is getting real about navigating love and life in the limelight.
“I think doing anything in the public eye is uncomfortable,” Kravitz, 37, told British Vogue in a profile published Thursday, June 11, when asked specifically about falling in love as a public figure.
Kravitz was married to Karl Glusman from 2019 to 2021, moving on with Channing Tatum after her divorce. Kravitz and Tatum, 46, ultimately called off their engagement in 2024. Multiple outlets reported in April that Kravitz is engaged to Harry Styles after nearly eight months of dating.
While Kravitz has not publicly addressed her relationship with the 32-year-old musician, their connection has made waves across the internet. Most recently, fans spiraled after noticing that the couple may have gotten matching tattoos.
“I’m aware it’s happening. I’m aware of when it’s happening, like when there are eight people outside my house, that’s super uncomfortable,” the actress admitted of dealing with fame. “I’m aware of all the ingredients that create the thing that we’re talking about. But that doesn’t mean you’re necessarily OK with it.”
Kravitz continued, “There are moments obviously when you just want to hide because it feels overwhelming and then there are moments when you, whether it’s in a defiant way, are like, ‘I’m going to walk and get my coffee and you’re not going to take that away from me.’ People sometimes ask me, ‘Why are you walking around?’ It’s because I live in New York. I live three blocks away. I’m not going to get in a car.”
For Kravitz, she still wants to “participate in life” despite any overwhelming fan attention.
“Even though the experience is different, I still would rather have that than be someone who completely closes myself off and doesn’t want to walk to get a coffee, because then who are you?” she said. “Maintaining any kind of normal state, I think, is really important.”
Even though Kravitz’s daily life is often fodder for online conversations and debate, the Blink Twice director doesn’t feel the need to explain herself or her future dreams.
“You just kind of have to be realistic,” she acknowledged. “If I want to do something well, I have to focus on it. Knowing myself, I’m not going to have a kid and direct movies at exactly the same time. You just have to decide where you want your energy to be.”
At the end of the British Vogue interview, Kravitz also declined to clarify any misconceptions about her life.
“I’m not going to add to the noise,” she said. “Trying to correct something that people, who don’t know me, might think about me, feels like I’m putting ice cream on top of a steak.”
