The team behind Amazon Prime Video’s Off Campus has pleaded with fans to stop “targeted harassment” of the cast following Mika Abdalla’s split from fiancé Jake Short.
“The Off Campus community is built on a shared love of storytelling — and on respect for the real people who bring it to life,” the show’s official X account shared on Thursday, June 11. “We ask that everyone in this space extend that respect to our cast and the people in their lives. Accounts that engage in targeted harassment will be removed from following our accounts.”
The statement comes days after Us Weekly exclusively reported that Off Campus star Abdalla, 26, had ended her engagement to Short, 29, after five years together.
“Due to recent interest in Mika’s personal life, it would feel remiss to not address that her and Jake are no longer together,” a rep for Abdalla told Us on June 1. “They continue to support each other and remain on friendly terms, and kindly ask for privacy and respect.”
Following news of the split, a 2024 clip of Abdalla and Short on the latter’s “The Sit and Chat” podcast resurfaced online. Fans believed that Short disparaged Abdalla in the footage.
“We’ve seen a conversation around clips of us together when we were in a relationship, and people making harmful and inaccurate assumptions about our dynamic,” the exes told Us in a joint statement after the podcast clip went viral. “We were in a loving, respectful relationship for five years [and] it’s hurtful to see playful moments dissected in a way that does not reflect the respect and love we had and still have for each other.”
Short further addressed his comments about Abdalla in a statement via his Instagram Stories.
“I made a disrespectful, juvenile joke in a clip that recirculated this week,” the Disney Channel alum wrote. “It’s imperative to me that I take accountability, as I am aware that it was inappropriate.”

Short said the podcast moment is “not representative of who I am or who I was in my relationship.”
“I continue to learn from this situation and work to show people the respect they deserve,” he concluded.
Abdalla, who met Short on the set of 2021’s Sex Appeal, starred as Allie Hayes on Off Campus season 1. She is set to co-lead the upcoming season 2, which is currently in production, opposite Stephen Kalyn’s Dean Heyward-Di Laurentis.
“Even though we do tease Dean and Allie a lot earlier than people expect, you are still left wanting a lot more,” Abdalla exclusively told Us last month of what awaits the pair onscreen in season 2. “And that’s something I’m really excited about. You just want to see more.”
