Country singer John Rich is wading into the world of politics with a special position in President Donald Trump’s administration.
“President Trump has afforded me the great honor to serve in his administration as the ‘Special Envoy for American Landowners,’” Rich, 52, wrote via X on Monday, June 8. “In this role, I look forward to representing and advocating for landowners’ rights against any entity that chooses to harass or intimidate them in an effort to achieve goals contrary to those of the President. I look forward to defending our farmers and ranchers.”
In a follow-up tweet, Rich said it is “an honor” to support Trump, 79, and his political agenda.
“It’s an honor to be able to fight for American Landowners,” Rich tweeted. “I intend to give it everything I’ve got. Believe it!”
Rich, best known for his Big & Rich band, is more than ready to step into the new arena.
“I’m excited to have the chance to do some serious good for our landowners,” he tweeted to conservative commentator Riley Gaines after she offered her congratulations. “And you know me, I enjoy the fight.”
The United States Department of Agriculture subsequently issued a statement on Rich’s appointment.
“America’s farmers, ranchers, and landowners are among the greatest stewards of our nation’s resources and the backbone of our rural communities,” Secretary Brooke Rollins wrote in a statement published Wednesday, June 10. “President Trump understands that private property rights are fundamental to the American way of life.”
She continued, “John Rich has long been a champion for rural America, and I look forward to working alongside him as we continue fighting for the people who feed, fuel, and clothe our nation.”

Per Rollins’ statement, Rich will serve as a “leading advocate for America’s farmers, ranchers and private landowners” to ensure their concerns are heard and rights are protected.
“He will engage directly with landowners across the country and work to address challenges posed by government overreach, activist pressure campaign and outside interests that threaten private property rights and the long-term viability of rural communities,” the website reads. “A key focus of Rich’s work will be advocating for landowners facing pressure related to large-scale solar and wind development that may impact productive farmland, ranchland, and rural livelihoods. He will work closely with USDA leadership and stakeholders to ensure landowners have a strong voice in decisions affecting their property and communities.”
Rich previously appeared on Trump’s The Celebrity Apprentice season 4 in 2011, which he ultimately won.
