Helen Mirren has spoken out in support of Tom Hardy
Mirren said she would “absolutely” work with her MobLand costar again, amid reports that Hardy had been fired from the show ahead of season 3
Calling him “the most amazing actor,” Mirren said Hardy is “a very special person”
Helen Mirren doesn’t seem to have any bad blood with Tom Hardy.
The British actors have worked together on the last two seasons of the Paramount+ thriller series MobLand, but reports circulated in May that Hardy, 48, had clashed with production on the U.K. set and would not be back if the show was renewed for season 3.
In an interview published on Thursday, June 11, Mirren, 80, said she would “absolutely” continue working with Hardy on MobLand, which also stars Pierce Brosnan. “In a f—ing heartbeat,” she told Variety.
She described Hardy as “the most amazing actor” and told the outlet, “I love Tom.”
“Different actors have different processes. I’ve learnt over the years that some people get to things faster. As long as what’s on the screen is fantastic, I’m totally chilled with however someone gets there,” she continued. “Tom is a very special person. I think he’s absolutely remarkable. My support of him is genuine and heartfelt.”

Mirren’s praise of her costar comes after she shared her support for him on social media last month.
On Thursday, May 28, she posted a photo of Hardy on Instagram alongside a brief but heartfelt message. “Love you now and always,” Mirren wrote, signing the post simply, “Helen.”
After initially reporting that Hardy would not return for MobLand season 3, Variety later confirmed, citing a source close to production, that the British actor had not, in fact, been fired and that discussions remain underway about his possible return.
“Tom was not fired, the door is not closed for season 3 and things are being worked through creatively,” the source said.

Issues had reportedly arisen during the production of season 2, which wrapped filming in March, as there was friction between Hardy and Jez Butterworth, MobLand‘s showrunner, writer and executive producer, per Deadline. The outlet reported that Hardy and Butterworth reached the point that they “could no longer work together” on season 2, and pointed to Hardy’s “chronic lateness to set” as one of the underlying reasons for the tension.
Meanwhile, a source claimed that Hardy had not been fired from MobLand yet, but discussions were ongoing about his fate on the series, per The Hollywood Reporter.
MobLand season 1 can be streamed on Paramount+.
