Breaking Down Sharon Osbourne’s Health Issues

In mid-June 2026, Sharon Osbourne took to Instagram to reveal that she had unexpectedly suffered a medical scare, which was why she had to miss the unveiling of a statue of her late husband, Ozzy Osbourne.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t be at Hellfest for the unveiling of Ozzy’s statue. Unfortunately, I had an unexpected trip to the hospital earlier in the week,” she shared. While Osbourne did not go into detail about why she was hospitalized, she has been open about various health issues in the past.

What was Sharon Osbourne diagnosed with?

In 2002, Osbourne was diagnosed with colon cancer. She documented her journey with the disease on Season 2 of The Osbournes.

Osbourne received her diagnosis after a blood test revealed she was severely anemic, and doctors urged her to have a colonoscopy. She underwent surgery to remove a foot-long segment of her colon, then found out the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes, which prompted doctors to put her on weekly chemotherapy treatments for three months. By 2003, Osbourne was cancer-free.

However, in 2012 she opted to have a preventive double mastectomy after learning she had a genetic mutation that increased her risk of getting breast cancer. “For me, it wasn’t a big decision. It was a no-brainer,” she said at the time. “I didn’t want to live the rest of my life with that shadow hanging over me.”

Osbourne has also been open about her depression diagnosis over the years. In 2016, she took a five-week hiatus from The Talk after reaching a “low point” where she “couldn’t verbalize” what was wrong with her. She spent time in a rehabilitation center to get help. Osbourne said she has attempted suicide in the past, including once in 2015 when she “took a whole bunch of pills,” she told the celebrity.land.

Why was Sharon Osbourne hospitalized?

Less than four years before her 2026 hospitalization, Osbourne received medical attention in December 2022 while filming an episode of Night of Terror with son Jack Osbourne.

On a January 2023 episode of The Talk, she opened up about the mysterious hospitalization. “I wish I could, but I can’t [tell you why it happened],” she admitted. “It was the weirdest thing. I was doing some filming, and suddenly they tell me that I [passed out] for 20 minutes. I was in hospital. I went to one hospital, they took me to another hospital, and I did every test over two days, and nobody knows why.”

Osbourne was also briefly hospitalized in December 2020 after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

How did Sharon Osbourne lose weight?

Osbourne has lost weight through both surgery and medication over the years. In 1999, she had gastric band surgery and lost more than 100 pounds. She wound up having the procedure reversed in 2006.

Osbourne previously revealed that she considers herself a “food addict” and has tried various diets, including Atkins, to lose weight. For less than a year, she was on Ozempic, which resulted in a drastic change.

“I’m too gaunt, and I can’t put any weight on,” Osbourne told Daily Mail in November 2023. “I want to because I feel I’m too skinny. I’m under 100 pounds, and I don’t want to be. Be careful what you wish for.” She lost 42 pounds on the type 2 diabetes drug before going off it.

Osbourne has sworn off weight loss medications and told The Guardian in 2024, “I’ve finally become more accepting of my body, my looks.”

Osbourne has had three facelifts. Her first was in 1987, followed by another in 2002, and then a third procedure in October 2021, which she described as “the worst thing I ever did.”

Osbourne told The Times, “I had one eye here and one eye there and my mouth was all skewwhiff, and then I had to wait for that to heal before I could go back and have it corrected.”

She also insisted she was done with plastic surgery after that incident, telling The Sun, “That one put me off, and it frightens me. I really f**king pushed it with that last facelift, and I am now like … no more. Time is against me. I cannot have another facelift.”

Additionally, Osbourne has had breast implants, a tummy tuck, Botox, and fillers.
