Like its K-Pop peers, Hybe is famous for the auditioning process behind its groups. Now it’s putting that methodology to work in a search for emerging producers too.
Its ‘Next New Creator’ program launched this week with four of its labels – BigHit Music, Belift Lab, Pledis Entertainment and YX Labels – involved as well as the parent company.
The contest is open to “aspiring pop music producers” aged 18 and over, globally, working as individuals or teams. They have to submit 2-5 demo tracks, with the ultimate contest prize being KRW 5m ($3.3k) and a collaboration opportunity with one of the labels.
Hybe is looking for producers with “an excellent understanding of the global music market and trends”, adding that “music with fresh sounds and a trendy style is preferred”.
In answer to the obvious question, Hybe noted in the contest terms that “use of AI is prohibited”. Demos produced using mobile DAWs are also barred.
