While it’s been a sluggish season for the Kansas City Royals, Salvador Perez is still putting in the work as one of the club’s best players. The 15-year veteran supplanted himself in the organization’s history books on Wednesday after going yard against the San Francisco Giants.

In the bottom of the seventh with a man on second, Perez launched the ball toward deep-right center field to trim the Giants’ lead down to 3-2. That home run just so happened to be the 317th of his career, which ties the Royals’ record of most home runs hit by a single player in franchise history. One more dinger and Perez will be the outright home run leader in Kansas City over George Brett.

That was Salvador Perez’s 14th home run of the season. He is easily on pace to surpass 20 home runs in a single campaign for the sixth straight year. After the Royals’ 5-4 win over the Giants, the 36-year-old catcher has also recorded 78 hits and 43 RBIs through 369 at-bats, giving him a .211 batting average on the season.

Wednesday’s victory gave the Royals a 3-0 sweep over the Giants. It’s the second consecutive series win for Kansas City, as the club beat the San Diego Padres 2-1 in the prior three-game series. While the team is 5-5 in its last 10 games, the franchise still has quite the hill to climb if they hope to contend for the postseason.
