Alec Baldwin’s been busy — hosting film fests, resurrecting projects, fronting a TLC reality TV series — but now he’s making headlines for something a little less glamorous: crashing his wife’s six-figure ride into a tree in the Hamptons.
TMZ was first to break the news on Monday October 13. The 67-year-old actor was traveling in a white Range Rover on Montauk Highway in East Hampton when the vehicle veered off and crashed into a tree. He appeared uninjured and was spotted speaking with officers beside the mangled SUV, while his brother, Stephen Baldwin, stood nearby. The front end was completely crumpled — hood bent, grille shattered — but both men seemed to walk away without serious harm.
According to Range Rover’s site, the kind of SUV Alec was driving starts near $110,000 and can push well beyond $200,000 when fully equipped.
Hours later, the 30 Rock alum addressed the incident in an Instagram video, explaining that the accident happened after he swerved to avoid a “garbage truck the size of a whale.” He said, “To avoid hitting him, I hit a tree — a big fat tree and crushed my wife’s car. I crushed my wife’s car and I feel bad about that, but it’s all fine and I’m fine and my brother’s fine.”
The Hollywood icon was in the Hamptons this weekend for the Hamptons International Film Festival, where he serves as a board co-chair. Just a few days earlier, he was in Buffalo, making an appearance at another film festival for his project Baristas vs. Billionaires, before returning east. Between cross-state travel, back-to-back appearances, and a packed October schedule, it’s been a nonstop stretch for the actor.
At home, Alec’s life is just as full. He’s been married to Hilaria Baldwin since 2012, and they share seven children — plus his eldest, Ireland Baldwin, from a previous marriage. Their TLC reality series The Baldwins just premiered this year, putting the family even more in the spotlight.
Professionally, Alec has been pushing forward, too. His long-delayed western Rust finally hit theaters in May, marking an emotional milestone after years of legal turmoil surrounding the on-set tragedy that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The 2024 manslaughter case against Alec was dismissed with prejudice, closing one of the most turbulent chapters of his career.
