The One Show fans were left wondering where Alex Jones was after the presenter was absent from the BBC sofa.
Viewers of The One Show noticed something amiss during Wednesday evening’s broadcast (June 10), with regular host Alex Jones nowhere to be seen.
The Welsh presenter typically helms the BBC programme alongside various guest co-hosts, such as Roman Kemp, Vernon Kay and Clara Amfo.
Instead, audiences were greeted by Angellica Bell and JB Gill, who wasted no time in revealing the whereabouts of the 49-year-old.
Angellica explained: “If you’re wondering where Alex is tonight, she’s at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition before it opens to the public next Tuesday.
“Last night, we revealed the successful artists, both amateur and professional, who were selected to have their work displayed in the world-famous gallery. Tonight, we’ve been invited to a special launch party to celebrate.”
The programme then switched to footage of Alex at Burlington House, the venue hosting the prestigious event, as she wandered through one of the exhibition spaces filled with artwork, reports the Mirror.
She remarked: “It’s one of my favourite nights of the year. Oh my goodness, there is so much to see here. Now, we’ve been following some of the artists all week who are hoping to get their work on the wall.
“Tonight, after 22 years of submitting, Vincent will finally see his on one of these walls, it’s going to be quite an emotional moment, I think.
“Also, you should see the guest list! There are celebrities everywhere here, and I might just get one for a chat later, who knows.”
The BBC presenter subsequently caught up with Vincent, who became visibly emotional upon seeing his artwork displayed after spending two decades working towards this achievement.
In other programme news, Nikki Fox announced to audiences that she would be absent from screens temporarily as Watchdog enters a short break.
She explained to viewers: “We’re having a little break now. Going to have a little lie down and a bacon roll!
“But we are going to be back very soon with plenty more investigations from me, Matt and our new team members! We’ve got Nick Stapleton, who you saw tonight and Amanda Haque.”
Concluding the segment, Angellica informed audiences that Watchdog would resume broadcasting in September.
The One Show airs weeknights on BBC One at 7pm
